Since the fall of 1982, the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter (WMAC) has been the local chapter of the American Payroll Association located in our Nation's Capital.  Our chapter meetings are held at various locations throughout the DC Metro Area.


Member Benefits

The WMAC holds approximately 6 meetings a year and presents a speaker on subjects impacting the payroll profession such as current and future legislation, technology, compensation and fringe benefits.  Speakers include representatives from government agencies in addition to subject matter experts.

Recertification Credit Hours (RCHs) 
RCHs are required to maintain the CPP and FPC certifications.  Our events advertise how many RCHs are offered.

Networking/Professional Relationships
Membership in the WMAC and attendance to the chapter meetings and conference(s) is a great way to meet other payroll professionals in the area, discuss common concerns, share information and past experiences.  

Membership Directory* 
Members of the WMAC have access to the completed member directory of the WMAC.

Our chapter publishes a newsletter eight times a year that contains important information on legislative updates, as well as articles and other information of interest to local members.  

National Payroll Week (NPW) 
As a joint effort with APA, the local chapter is active in recognizing all payroll professionals for the vital role they play in maintaining the smooth functioning of the payroll tax withholding system and for working effectively with federal, state and local tax officials.    

Annual Conference 
Annually, WMAC participates in the Virginia Statewide Payroll Conference (VSPC).  This conference is a 2-day conference held in October.  The VSPC is a great opportunity for education and networking.  Attendees to this conference can be from 7 chapters covering Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.  For 2019, this conference is being held in Roanoke, Virginia. Membership DUES

Anyone interested in joining their fellow payroll professionals in the Washington Metropolitan Area can become a member of the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter of the American Payroll Association.  Our membership is a rolling 12 months (you receive 12 months of benefits from the time you enroll) and our membership is only $50.00 per year per person. There is a $15.00 admin fee for new members and expired members. This membership belongs to the individual, not the company.
