About Us

Since 1983, the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter (WMAC) has been YOUR local leader in payroll education.

Our Founder, Maureen (Reed) Brown, had the dream and the ambition to form the Washington Metropolitan Area Chapter (WMAC).  WMAC had the first meeting in the fall of 1982 and officially formed in January 1983.  The first meeting, as an official chapter, was attended by 8 people and held in Tyson's, Virginia.  During the first official meeting, officers were elected and meeting dates were established.  Over the years, the chapter has moved its meetings for a variety of reasons, mostly increased membership.  WMAC has met in several Virginia locations - Reston, Springfield,  Tyson's, and Falls Church.  Currently, the WMAC meets various Washington, DC and Virginia locations.

The chapter's first full day meeting in 1985 evolved into an annual Tri-State Conference that continued until 2009. This conference included an exhibitor hall, general sessions, and educational workshops tailored to benefit today's Payroll Professional.  In 2010, WMAC merged with the annual Virginia Statewide Payroll Conference.  This conference is comprised of four Virginia payroll chapters.  The conference has the same focus as our Tri-State, but allows for a larger networking opportunity.

Education, our main purpose, happens through our chapter meetings, educational offerings, CPP/FPC study groups, and our affiliation with the Virginia Statewide Payroll Conference.

Over the years, WMAC has won many awards from the PayrollOrg including but not limited to Chapter of the Year.  Since the beginning, WMAC has supported our community through various charity organizations and outreach activities.

What started as an informal gathering has developed into a well-organized group of Payroll Professionals that stand behind the PayrollOrg's objectives. As the chapter that is located in our nation's capital, we have an extraordinary opportunity to affect legislation and keep abreast of the latest regulations and laws that affect our daily activities. The WMAC is dedicated to serving its members and is committed to continued growth and success in the years to come.
