It’s an exciting time to be a member of the WMAC! As the APA’s 36th Annual Congress approaches, we are in final preparations to greet more than 2,000 payroll professionals from around the globe. WMAC has the honor of sharing the hospitality booth with the Charles Town, WV and Charm City, MD chapters. We can’t wait to meet new friends and welcome familiar faces to our home turf! Whether you are able to attend Congress, or just want to check out the show, we have plenty of opportunities for our members to be involved throughout the week. You can find more details in this newsletter, or you can take a peek at our special Congress page on our website at http://wmac-apa.org/WMAC_at_Congress_2018.
Although most of May is jam-packed with Congress activity, we are full steam ahead for a summer busy with chapter events! Our next Community Outreach event is Saturday, June 9th at the Capital Area Food Bank Community Market in Reston, VA. You would be surprised at what an impact just a few hours volunteering can have! The next Chapter meeting follows on Wednesday, June 20th where we will discuss Tax Reform and the impact facing the payroll community with Michael Baer from Bloomberg BNA. This will be a breakfast meeting, so you can be back to the office before lunch.
Lastly, I would like to take a moment to recognize some recent changes to the WMAC Board. Most of you know Lori Brown, Linda Dailey, and Daniel Dycus as chapter leaders. Throughout the years they have served the WMAC in a variety of ways, from planning chapter events to teaching study groups. They have been a large portion of WMAC’s heart and soul for a very long time. Unfortunately, Lori, Linda, and Dan must step back from the WMAC Board. We wish them the best of luck with their future adventures and hope they will still visit us from time to time! You will be greatly missed.
Join us on Saturday June 9 from 8:30am to 12pm for our community outreach event. WMAC will be volunteering for the Capital Area Food Bank at the community market in Reston. We will be to handing out fresh fruit and vegetables to low-income families and senior citizens.
Come and help us support this Northern Virginia community.

Topic: Tax Reform
The tax code overhaul has brought many changes for payroll professionals in 2018. A big change involved adjustments to federal income tax brackets and Form W-4 withholding rules. The law also changed some benefits that involve payroll. Many questions have been answered, but many remain. Some states with income taxes have made changes to account for the new federal law as well. And while withholding methods did not tangibly change for 2018 during the one-year transition period allowed under the law, we can expect the 2019 withholding methods to be much different.
